Univesity Of Aberdeen
Any road up, as the actress said, shaking hands with the bishop, I wasn't comfortable with the idea of
combining study with living at home in Wishaw, particularly since I had passed my driving test a few
months before, and had since been chained to the wheel, figuratively, so I upped sticks and transferred
my degree to The University Of Aberdeen. You know, if I ever have children, I will insist that they
leave home as young as possible, and go to university somewhere that can't be reached but by a long
journey. It's a great formative experience.

Aberdeen was a blast. I made some great friends, several of whom I keep in contact with to this day.
There were memorable parties, good times and bad times, a flat mate from hell (Angela Hill - her surname
is only one letter away what what living with her was like), a boyfriend from the same place (Chris Edwards
- who is now married, I am given to understand), particularly special friendships (Alison Buckle and Tim
Teeman), work in a bingo hall, snowball fights, work in a gay nightclub, drag, Rocky Horror, beaches,
walks by the sea ... the list could go on and on, and it would continue to be rambling and almost meaningless.

Suffice to say that I graduated from Aberdeen two years later with an upper second MA (Hons) in Pure Mental
Philosophy. Which isn't obviously funny, unless you come from West Central Scotland, where "pure mental"
isn't an uncommon conjunction of words.
